BAND SUCCESSES.
[TO the editor.]
Sir, —As I write, 1 have- before mo a programme of the Civic Band’s third concert, to be given next Thursday night. Under the heading “Performances of Mr. A. McMaster,” various successes of other bands are cited. The reason for this is rather obscure. Surely it is not cheap boost for Mr. McMaster; anyone knowing that gentleman’s modesty would immediately refute that suggestion. Therefore, the question arises: Why are these “successes” printed. The Civic Band had no hand in these victories, some of which were won years ago, and in two cases the opposition offered was merely one band. What, little honour there was in defeating one band should not be pirated by the Civic. Further on. they state: .“Third jn ‘A Grade, Test, Dunedin, 1933.” ’l’liis is also a, mis-statement. 'l’hey were third in own choice lest, which is a vastly different, proposition. I would ask the Civic Band 1o overhaul their programmes next season, ami uuote exactly just, the honours they have taken in open company. No boost, is needed for their conductor, as the medals he has won are eloquent testimony to the ability he possesses. Yours, etc., ’ “OBO.”
