FASCIST ANNIVERSARY
CELEBRATIONS AT ROME. [by CABLE —PKESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] ROME, October 29. Signor Mussolini, in his message to the people on the eleventh anniversary of his march to Rome at the head of the Fascist!, on Saturday, challenges democracy and the party government method. Signor Mussolini says: The old doctrines are capitulating everywhere. The Italian papers print maps showing that Fascism has crossed the frontiers of Italy. Germany and Austria are coloured grey, and a grey arrow also points questioningly towards Britain.
Italy must lead the world in air, on land, and in the realm of the spirit. ■ declared Signor Mussolini, speaking . from the balcony of the Plazzo Vene- : tia, at the climax of a glittering march . by 16.000 of Italy’s war veterans and Black Shirts, in celebration of the eleventh anniversary of the Fascist' March to Rome. The march inaugurated the “Imperial way” which Signor Mussolini restructed through the historic city of Caesar's, on which the Roman soldiers l marched 2000 years ago. As the Fascist eagles and other emblems dipped ’ under the ancient Arch of Constantine, ' which has newly been revealed by ex- , cavations, the cheering thousands reIgarded the spectacle as the revival of ; the ancient triumphant march of the i Roman Legions, which impression was i heightened by the presence of the j King, taking the salute for the first | time in the Anniversary celebrations, i The whole of Italy was on holiday, bands playing in the squares, and bonfires blazing on the peaks of the Alps and the Appennines throughout the I night. A huge public works pro- | gramme, which involves £40,000,000, I was inaugurated among the day’s cele- ' brations. CZECH INDEPENDENCE. I, LONDON, October 28.
