ABORIGINAL AND POLICE.
DARWIN, October 17
A life and death struggle with Nemarluck, an aboriginal murderer, in which the fugitive was thrown over a cliff badly wounded, is reported by Constable Dons.
Word having been brought to Darwin by an aboriginal that Nemarluck, the notorious Fitzmaurice aboriginal, and ringleader of the murder of throe Japanese at Port Keats in 1930, had been seen within 10 miles of Darwin, a police raiding party was organised early this morning. A surprise rush at, dawn on the sleeping Nemarluck was planned. Constable Dons and the black tracker “Smiler” returned this afternoon
from the raid on. Nemarluck’s camp at! Delisaville Island. He said the police) party had a desperate struggle with; Nemarluck for about a quarter of an; hour before Nemarluck was thrown 1 over a cliff. By that time “Smiler”, was too exhausted to move and another police black tracker was unconscious. It is believed that Nemarluck is lying near the scene of the fight badly wounded by a bullet fired by “Smiler.” The police are still combing the island for him. j Nemarluck escaped from Fanny Bay Gaol on September 23. NEMARLUCK ESCAPES. DARWIN, October 18. Nemarluck, tho notorious aboriginal, has apparently made good his escape from Delissaville. Constable Don has
Irc urned from the scene of Nemari luck’s fight with two police boys “with- ■ out finding any trace of him. Police 'ray that further search for him in the 'jungle is hopeless, and that they will wait until word is received that Nemarlluck has settled down in another hid-•ing-place. It is considered that the 1 only possibility of capturing him without' serious risk is by surprise. Great praise is given by Constable Don to “Smiler” (a police boy), for his 1 courageous attempt to hold the es--1 capee. “Smiler” to-day is none the worse for his encounter.
