The Graf Zeppelin arrived from Miami via Akron and landed briefly but returned to Akron due to menacing weather. The Zeppelin is scheduled to stay in America until Saturday, when it will start on the return flight to Friedrichshafen. NELSON PAGEANT. NELSON, October 28. Planes from all parts, of the Dominion arrived at Nelson this morning for to-day’s pageant, the first of the kind held here. The weather is perfect for the event. WEST COAST AERO CLUB. . A meeting of the West Coast Aero Club was held last evening in the Borough Council Chambers, the Mayor, Mr J. W. Greenslade presiding. The Chairman congratulated the committee on the work it had already done, mentioning in particular the provision of a temporary landing ground, which had been of service immediately. The Director of Civil Aviation wrote stating that there was no doubt the .West Coast clubs would receive recognition from the Government if the following conditions were complied with: (a) suitable ground, etc.; (b) ground engineer and instructor; (c) thirty pupils; Federation of Club throughout the Coast. The Secretary (Mr J. H. Brailsford) reported as follows: —Since the formation of the Club on August 14, your executive committee has not been idle and has been striving to co-operate with the Aero Club in this area in bringing about the Federation. Your Club was represented by Messrs F. A. Kitchingham, H. W. de Castro and M. E. Norton at a meeting of delegates from various Clubs, held on the 12th inst., when it was decided to form the

West Coast (South Island) Federated ,Aero Club. This meeting has been .called inter alia for the purpose of approving of the Club rules and bringing about the incorporation of the Club. The Federated Club is endeavouring to obtain Government recognition and subsequently affiliation with the New Zealand Aero Club, which body governs civil aviation throughout the Dominion. The Club membership is Increasing and enthusiasm in the Club movement is apparent right throughout the district. Much of the spade work has now been carried out and your Committee hopes;, in the near future, that they will be able to invite members to participate in Club flying on a firm and economical basis. The Treasurer (Mr G. F. Shallcrass) reported:—Since the first general meeting at the Council Chambers, part of the town has been canvassed and together with the efforts of the Executive a further number of 44 members have been enrolled, bringing the total membership up to 117 members to date. A donation of £3 3/- has been received from Patron G. Blair, Patara, ; while the number of subscriptions received to date amounts to 28. The Borough Engineer, Mr A. J. ;Fairmaid, reporting on the progress made with the Borough landing ground, said it would be some months before the plans would be ready to send to the Department of Air Services. When the plans were approved the Borough would be able to proceed with the work, provided the Defence Department agreed. About two years would be necessary to get the ground ready for use, as the surface would have to be practically re-made, but he

; hoped to have two runways worked in much earlier. It would be possible to have a runway of 1,500 yards in the direction of the prevailing wind. The ground had been found entirely free ' from fog. Mi- H. W. de Castro, club captain, said pupils would be able to commence training at Greymouth as soon as the Government subsidy was assured. It was decided to give a free fight to .the member securing the most new members by the time the Club starts training. Mr de Castro reported that a meeting of the Hokitika, Ikamatua, Greymouth and South Westland Clubs had

decided to form a Federated Club for the West Coast, consisting of these Clubs and the Westport Club. I , The arrangements made by the delegates were endorsed.
