Knights, Messrs H. F. Cooke, R. ( J. Radford, H. Newman, A. N. Baker, W. E. Richards, J. J. Mclntosh, sen., L. Kernahan (secretary). One new member wais elected, and Air P. Graham was elected to the Council, representing the Waiho district. The Greymouth branch wrote, stating that an effort is to be made to get the Otira Gorge Road repaired sufficiently for cars to get through by Cup week, and asking that as many motorists as possible use the road. Mr Sargent wrote acknowledging a letter from this branch and assuring the branch of his best efforts on their behalf. Rev. H. J. W. Knights briefly reported on his visit to the Association’s meeting in Christchurch and the formation of the Canterbi<ry-West Coast Highways League. The action of the President in telegraphing the branch’s good wishes in connection with the new project was approved. , An informal discussion ensued on the question of the new society formed, some considering the League would be really carrying out the functions for which the C.A.A. is founded, while others thought the inclusion of outside help such as the Alayors of Boroughs, County Chairmen, etc., would add strength to the League in presenting petitions to Parliament, particularly the question of bridging the Waimakariri. The scarcity of whitebait has been a great disappointment to the many fishermen who look to this season for tiding them over a few weeks of the year. Both canning factories are open to receive the fish, but so far very little is caught, and the season is ■well advanced 1 . The box factory is nearing the stage when operations will be commencing. Some final adjustments to the machinery are being made.
