RETURN OF EMIGRANT

ALL RELATIVES DEAD. LONDON, August 12. The story of ah elderly Irishman’s bitter disappointment on returning home after many years of hard work in the United States, only to find that all his relatives were dead, was revealed yesterday at Liverpool. The man, John McKinstry, was found sitting on two battered suitcases, in a. Liverpool main street, suffering from loss of memory. He had $lO,OOO (£2,240) in American money in his possession, as well as £630 in English money. He was taken to Smithdown-road Hospital, where he is now detained, and Inspector Burgess, of the Liverpool C.1.D., investigated his history. He was born at Dundalk, Ireland, seventy-eight years ago, emigrated to New York, and became an hotel porter. He worked hard to save the sum •of nearly 25,000 dollars, with the idea of returning to Ireland and settling down among his own people. He left New York a few weeks ago in the White Star liner Georgic, and arrived at Dundalk. The shock of finding that his relatives were dead was so great that he lost his memory, and was cared for by the Dundalk police for some time. He then went to Liverpool with the idea of going back to New York, but he again lost his memory. The United States Consul in Liverpool has been advised, and has confirmed this account. . McKinstry told the authorities that he does not care about his money now he is alone in the world. He will be detained in Liverpool for some time, and it is thought that he may make his home there.
