TO SHARE STRIKE LOSS

MINERS’ AGREEMENT. LONDON. July 8. A lightning strike of colliers that lasted three days and cost the colliery £lOOO was mentioned at Canterbury police court yesterday when twenty miners were summoned for breach of contract in ceasing work without fourteen days’ notice. For the Chislet Colliery Company.' Mr. Prosser said the summonses had | been issued as test cases. The loss to; the colliery in three days amounted to more than £lOOO, or, roughly, 30s per worker. Tho workmen’s committee had, however, ’net him, and recognised that the stoppage was wrong. It had been agreed that each man involved at the colliery should pay 10s, the company reserving the right to proceed against any man not falling in with the rest. The number of men who would pay would be about SOO. i Mr. S. Shea, on behalf of lite men,

said that, he was glad that wise counsels had prevailed. There were certain men with very advanced views, who took the bit between the teeth and led others into trouble. The cases were adjourned for the terms of setlement to be carried into effect.
