REEFTON NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] REEFTON, August 16. Mr F. Scarlett is spending his annual holidays with his mother, Mrs J. Scarlett, of Reefton. On Monday and Tuesday, Reefton experienced two days of bitterly cold weather. On Monday a high fog lay over the town until afternoon, and the cold was more penetrating than it has been for some weeks. The ranges near the town are carrying a heavy coating of snow.

Visitors to Reefton include Messrs A. F. Waters, and Sutton of Nelson and P. J. O’Regan of Wellington. There is on view a blue print sketch of the proposed new District High School building. Provision is made for six class-rooms, four being 24ft. by 21ft. 6ins., and two of 24ft. by 24ft. The new building will be a fine structure, having an entrance hall and with a corridor the full length of the back of the building, and with central heating throughout. At present in Reefton there is more building activity than there has been for some time past. Two bungalows are being built, while two more are to be erected shortly, and with the start of the new school building and the gymnasium, carpenters should be busy.
