LION IN SUMMERHOUSE

EATING TOMATOES. BOGNOR REGIS, July 3. A fully grown lion has been found in a summer house here calmly enjoying a meal of tomatoes. Hearing a pet monkey screaming with fright to-day, Mr P. A. Ramella, the manager of the Craigwell Park Country Club, went to see what was the matter. On entering the summer house he received a shock, for he found himself face to face with a lion eating tomatoes which had been put there to ripen. The monkey was crouched in a corner. Mi- Ramella fled to raise an alarm, and the monkey continued to scream, but the lion carried on with his meal. “The lion made no attempt to attack the monkey nor me,” said Mr Ramella. “But it was a terrifying moment because —well, who would expect to find a lion in a summer house.”

The animal had escaped from a menagerie in a field near the club. When the keeper arrived it allowed him to lead it quietly back to its cage.
