IRISH FREE STATE

ELECTION RUMOURS

BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]

DUBLIN, August 15.

There are persistent rumours that Mr De Valera shortly will force another election in the Irish Free State. Mr Cosgrave’s organisers have stated that he is negotiating with the Centre Party in order to present a united front.

The rumours are due to the expecta-

tions that the Senate this week will reject a number of the Government’s Bills, and that, consequently, Mr. De Valera will go to the country instead of waiting for these bills automatically to become law in eight months’ time.

It is recalled that Mr De Valera promised that -when the oath of. allegiance had been removed, he would make another appeal to the electorate that would allow the Sinn Feiners to offer themselves for election. The Sinn Fein Party, which stands for a Republic is endeavouring at present to raise funds, so as to contest every seat.

A well-informed De Valera supporter scouts the possibility of an election.
