Holland, M.P.. has received the following Ministerial communications: — Quartz Creek-Alexander Mines Track.—From the Minister of Employment (11/8/33): “I received your letter of the Oth instant in which you mention that the men who have been engaged on the construction of the Quartz Creek-Alexander Mines Track are being taken off and urge that their services be retained until the work is completed. In reply I have to inform you that although the Unemployment Board is subsidising this particular job the Public Works Department are controlling it, and I am accordingly referring your communication to the Minister of Public Works for consideration of your request.” Runanga single men. —From the Minister of Employment (8/8/33): “I am in receipt of your letter of the Sth ultimo supporting a request made by the Runanga Borough Council that the question of drafting single men from that township into relief camps be reconsidered so that they might he employed by the Borough on urgent drainage works in hand. After investigating the position obtaining at Runanga the Board is of the opinion that there is a sufficient number of registered and eligible married men resident in the Borough: also single men who have been granted exemption from relief camps, to meet the Borough Council’s labour requirements, and in these circumstances the Board regrets that it is unable to extend a general exemption from camps to all single men on the Runanga register.”
