OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. “Strange Justice,” a swift melodrama with Norman Foster, Reginald Denny and Marian Marsh, will be finally screened to-night. WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. Maurice Chevalier is featured in “Love Me To-night,” to be screened at Wednesday’s matinee, evening and Thursday. With Jeanette MacDonald again in the feminine lead, the picture is one of the best romantic comedies the French singing actor has made. The story is fantastic but good. Chevalier as a debonaire Paris tailor, who descends upon the chateau of the Vicomte Gilbert de Vareze to collect a large bill, and remains to play Prince Charming to the beautiful Princess Jeanette. WALLSEND—TO-NIGHT. “Racing Youth" will be screened at Wallsend to-night. G LADSTONE—TO-NIG ITT Just a final reminder of the “Shipwreck” ball to be held in the Gladstone Hall to-night. The Hall, which represents the deck of a ship, has been tastefully decorated and has a real nautical appearance. The music will be supplied by the ship’s full orchestra under the leadership of the “Chief Engineer” (F. Kennedy’s bus will leave Post Office at 8.15 p.m. ANNIVERSARY BALL The Marist Old Boys’ grand anniversary ball to morrow evening at Scjiaef’s Hall, promises to be one of the brightest functions of the year.

From the very start it was felt that something unique in entertainment should mark an important, anniversary as that marking the completion of forty years on the West Coast by the Marist Brothers. To ensure this an experienced and energetic committee of ladies and gentlemen has been busy for weeks past, in preparation for the great event. No pains have, been spared to make the function a brilliant success. To-morrow night promises to be the night of nights. Add to this a double orchestra, a sumptuous supper, a gay erdwd —what more do you want’. THE COMPETITIONS. The Competitions Festival for 1933 opens at 9.30 a.m. to-morrow, in the Town Hall and Trinity Institute, and will Im continued for a week, three sessions daily. Programmes have been drawn to afford the maximum or interest, to patrons, and a week oi high class entertainment is assured. The official opening will take place 10-morrow evening at 7.1.5, when the President, Mr M. Keating, will preside, and the Mayor, Mr .1. W. Greenslade, will speak. Owing to thy? large vocal entry much interest is expected to centre around the Doogan Memorial and Harold Prescott Cups, for both of which there will be strong competition. The dancing section is expected to provide its best exhibition to date, entries being more numerous in the character and operatic classes than at any previous festival. The programmes are on sale to-day at The Bristol, the shop of Mr J. 11. Keddie, Chemist, and at. all stationers.
