PROJECTED DEPARTURES. Kiwitea, Wellington, to-morrow. Karepo, Sydney, to-morrow. Kini, Westport, early. Kanna, Wellington, early. Rata, Nelson, early. Totara, Napier, early. Alexander, Dargaville, early. SHIPPING NOTES. The Kiwitea and Karepo are barbound. There are no prospects of despatching them before to-morrow afternoon’s tide. The Kini is still in the roadstead. The prospects are not encouraging for berthing to-day.
The Kanna left Lyttelton at 4.30 p.m. yesterday with cargo, via New Plymouth. On arrival she loads coal for Wellington only. The Kaimiro is due on Tuesday from Auckland, to load coal and timber for Auckland, completing at Westport, for New Plymouth. The Kartigi is due next Wednesday from Auckland, to load timber and coal for Wellington, via Westport. The Totara is- due on Thursday from Westport, to complete for Napier, via Gisborne.
The Rata is due from Westport tomorrow.
The Alexander leaves Nelson to-day, and Wellington on Monday, for Westport and Greymouth. On arrival here she loads coal for Dargaville. OTHER PORTS. SUVA, August 12. Sailed, yesterday, Karetu, fox- Auckland, and Waihemo for Apia. SYDNEY, August 12. Arrived: Niagara from Auckland. TRANS-ATLANTIC FARES. RUGBY, August 10. A special committee of the principals of the North Atlantic Shipping Conference agreed yesterday on a report on the passage rates to be submitted shortly to a full conference. The growth of the cabin class and tourist class of liners has led to a considerable lowering of the trans-Atlantic fares, and some of the authorities consider that the margin of price between the first and the cabin class accommodation should be lessened.
