JAPANESE TRADE

TREATY WITH AUSTRALIA. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] KOBE, August 11. Leading Japanese w’oollen men are meeting at Baron Uchida’s residence on August 18 to discuss the prospects of a commercial treaty w’ith Australia. It is reported that Australia is reluctant to make a treaty, owing to th G British Imperial bloc, while she is intending to increase her tariff against Japan. Japanese hopes are being raised of possible wool supplies from the Argentine, and also from Mongolian sheep raising, w’hich “will keep Australia in chock.” It is conjectured that Japan’s treaty will insist on Australia balancing her trade with Japan, instead of selling much and buying little. The more belligerent traders talk of boycotting Australian wool. INDIAN NEGOTIATIONS. LONDON, August 11. A Simla telegram announces that the delegates appointed by the Government of India to negotiate with the Government of Japan in regard to trade relations between India and Japan are: Sir Joseph Bhore and Sir Frank Noyce. The Japanese delegates are Setsuzo Sawada, Envoy Extraordinary, and Minister Plenipotentiary, and Susamu Pirao, of the Japanese Department of Commerce and Industry.
