COMMITTEE MEET!NG At the monthly met Ling of the Grey Main School Comini Lee, held last evening, Mr. R. A. Barrowman presided, Messrs G. Heri ng, A. V. Oliver, J. C. McDonald, J. Tc inent, R. J. Williams, H. Herring a id W. G. Scott (secretary), being also present. The Principal of the Greymouth Technical College wr: te advising that the Committee’s repre tentative on the Board of Governors, Mr. A. J. Fairmaid. had retired by < (fluxion of time, and asked that the nomination of a member be forwarde .’. Mr. McDonald nom anted the Chairman, as the Comini. tee’s representative, but the Chairm n declined, and also stated that Mr. Fairmaid did not seek re-election.

Mr. J. Tennent was then nominated, on the motion of th 3 Chairman, and Mr. Williams. The Headmaster (Mr. J. Graham), reported for the month: —Roll numbers —Grey Main, boys 27.', girls 240, total 519; Blaketown boys <5, girls 37, total S2; average attend: ice, Main 268, 221, 489; Blaketown <2, 25, 77. During the month Mr. Johns on, Agricultural Instructor’, visited the School and reported favourably on the work inspected. The usual school excursion to the Christchurch Winter Show will take place on August 17. Referring to the i xcursion to the Show, the Secretary stated that the children would leave on August 17, and return on August 19. He mentioned that the Committee were well in hand with the school days, and suggested that the School be granted an extra holiday, and proposed the Tuesday following the ordinary holidays. He considered that the examination results justified it. The Committee had power to grant one day at a time, and a day could be given in lieu of Show Day at Greymouth, which had not been taken this year. The Headmaster stated that 48 children would make the trip to Christchurch, in charge of Miss E. Moore. The teachers would prefer the extra holiday being granted at the end of the term holidays, as travelling arrangements would be then more suitable than at the commencement of the holidays. It was decided that the holiday be granted, and that the school re-open on the Tuesday following the holidays, in place of the usual Monday. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr. G. Herring, it was resolved that the Minister of Education be written to, asking him when a reply could be expected to the Committee’s representations regarding subsidy, and the state of the School buildings, which it was considered were much in need of repair. The installation of a bin for the storage of coke at the School, was left in the hands of the Secretary.

The Chairman mentioned that the school football jerseys, had been in a dilapidated condition, and Mr. Warwick Rothwell, and other past pnpils of the school, had donated a new set of jerseys.

It was decided that a letter of appreciation be forwarded to Mr. Rothwell. The Secretary stated that the West Coast Rugby Union had interested itself in the Rugby at the school, and had rendered assistance. He suggested that a letter be forwarded to the Union thanking it for the assistance given, and wishing the West Coast team success in Seddon Shield matches. Mr. A. A. Adams, had stated that he would be only too pleased to help the school, and Mr. A. Fong had offered to coach the boys. It was decided that a letter be forwarded, as suggested by the Secretary.
