STOWAWAY DEPORTED
ELABORATE PRECAUTIONS. [per press association.] AUCKLAND, July 14.. After spending nearly a month in Mount Eden prison, the German stowaway, Fritz Kreuzer, who jumped overboard from the Mariposa when she was leaving Auckland for Sydney on Juno 16. and swam ashore, was deported on the company’s, liner Monterey, which left for Sydney to-night.
To see that he did not escape again, a Customs officer travelled on the Monterey to the pilot anchorage. After ascertaining that, the stowaway was still aboard, the officer returned to Auckland in the .pilot boat. Extra precautions are being taken to ensure that Kreuzer does not escape. After being taken on board the Monterey by police, he was handcuffed with his hands behind his back, and later he was securely locked in a special apartment. He will be kept in a room, handcuffed, until he is handed over to the police at Sydney.
