BIG SETTLEMENT SCHEME. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] (Received July 15, S a.m.) CANBERRA, July 14. The Prim© Minister (Mr Lyons) announced brief details of a big development plan for the Northern Territory in conjunction with the British Government, with the object of populating the area, and at the same time affording protection of the natives. A sub-committee of the Cabinet is attending to the details. Two chartered companies, one of which will be Vestey’s, with immense capital, are prepared to embark on development'schemes, without delay, in return for Government guarantees of substantial tariff taxation, and other concessions, and assistance in providing transport facilities. Mr Lyons emphasised that the scheme which he endorsed, would be regarded as part of the Empire development plan, to enable Australian defences to be strengthened, and permit the maintenance of a White Australia policy.
