HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL. [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, June 10. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. Present: .The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), Crs. T. AV. Duff, James King. A. C. Armstrong, A. J. Thompson, M. McGavin, D. P. Stuart, G. Heinz, A. R. Elcock, Dr. Teichelmann. D. R. Dowell wrote objectng to the extension of the hours during which the billiard rooms may remain open. The Unemployment Commissioner, Welington, wrote that the State Forest Service are prepared to supply local bodies with trees for planting, providing the local bodies pay the cost of lifting, packing, and freight charges. The Medical Officer of Health, wrote, pointing out that there were accumulations of rubbish in yards and outbuildings of some of the hotels, and asking that the Borough Inspector attend to this matter. Miss M. S. Andrewes wrote, accepting a full-time appointment as shorthand writer and typiste from May 15, and tendering the Council sincere thanks for the appointment. Mr Jas. Shannon, Revell Street, applied to install an (inside petrol pump at Cameron’s stables now being converted to a motor garage.—Granted, subject to regulations. The Secretary of the Westland Hospital Board notified that the Hospital and Charitable Institution levy payabe by the Council for the year ending March 31, 1934, is £765, to be paid in nine equal instalments on May 31, and then on the last day of each sticceeding month until January 31, inclusive. T. J. V. Stopforth applied for a reduction in rental of Part Municipal Reserve No. 446. —Reduced to the former amount. D. N. Ditdrichs, Acting-Secretary, Kiwi Football Club, asked for permission for the use of the larger dress-ing-room in the Pavilion, Cass Square, for the purpose of a meeting place, and also asking whether the Council could see its way clear to install lights in the pavilion, as it would greatly benefit those clubs who have no training quarters.—No power to grant the application. Mrs Catherine Kerr applied to have footpath fronting section 1390, Sale Street (north of Park Street) gravelled and also to have a drain connection from the pipe drain to section boundary.—Referred’ to P.W. Committee. A. H. Seebeck wrote asking for formation of footpath to his residence, in Weld Street.—Referred to P.W. Committee to carry out. The Secretary of the Westand Racing Club wrote offering to hire the club’s horse and dray to the Council up to September next.—Left to the Mayor to attend. D. J. Evans wrote regarding his appointment as Council’s representative on the Local Unemployment Committee. —Held over till next meeting. William Wilson, as agent for Mr John Stewart, applied for consent to plan of subdivision of sections 1275 and 1276 at the corner of Davis and Park Streets. —Approved. C. J. P. Sellers, agent for Mr E. W. Breeze, applied for consent to plan of subdivision of Municipal Reserve No. 473, Sewiell Street. —Approved. The Secretary of the Hokitika Fire Brigade wrote, intimating that the Brigade will shortly commence practice for fire brigades competitions, and asking that a pipe be extended from the Hampden Street main to the practice station, and also a plug and valve, as it is considered that this would relieve shocks on the water mains.— Left with the P.W. Committee to report on. The Treasurer reported receipts amounting to £552/17/10; payments £559/17/1; debit balance £944/8/9. Accounts amounting to £629/11/1 were passed for payment. The Abattoirs Manager reported stock slaughtered for the month: 35 cows, 3 heifers, 64 bullocks, 272 sheep, 113 lambs, 16 pigs, 36 calves; condemned, 1 cow, 5 bullocks, 2 sheep, pigs. Fees £76/5/6; for the same period’ last year £74/15/-. Cr. Armstrong was granted leave to withdraw his notice of motion regarding extending of time for keeping billiard saloons open. It was resolved to call for tenders for a new gravel screen.
