HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL. [OVR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, May 13. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. Present: Mr G. A. Perry (Mayor), Crs T. W. Duff, G. Heinz, A. C. Armstrong, M. McGavin, A. R. Elcock, J. King, D. Stuart, A. Thompson. An’ apology was received from Cr. Teichelmann. A vote of appreciation was passed to past services of ex-Councillors E. W. Heenan, and D. J. Evans. The Secretary Hokitika Fire 1 Board sent notification under Section 26 of the Fire Brigades Act, 1926, that the Council’s contribution under Section 21 of that Act, is £2BO for the year, payable in four instalments, qutarterIv, in advance. ’ The Secretary, Westland Hospital Board', forwarded copy of receipts and estimates for the Westland Hospital Board for the year ending March 31, 1933, and intimated that the proposed levy to be struck will be about the same as last year. With regard to Council’s representation on the Unemployment Board, considerable discussion took place as.to whether the Council could appoint two other members in the place of Messrs Evans and Heenan. Eventually the discussion was held over. Treasurer’s report: Receipts £459 19/3- Expenditure £666/2/4; Debit Balance £B5B/9/9. Accounts amounting to £B5B were passed for payment. - The Finance Committee recommended: That Mrs Coyle’s rent be reduced and that Miss M. Andrews be appointed to Council office staff full time instead of half-time. —Approved. The Returning Officer’s report was read and received. He stated that out of a roll of electors of 1550 only 920 recorded their votes. Abbatoirs report for April: Stock slaughtered: 14 cows, 8 heifers, 55 bullocks, 231 sheep, 166 lambs, 20 pigs 19 calves. Fees for month: Amount £ 6G/2/0. Fees for corresponding month last year £7O/10/0. Councillor Elcock was appointed as Deputy Mayor. Councillor E. Teichelman was appointed Chairman of the Finance/ Committee. The following committees were appointed: — Public Works: Crs Stuart, King, Heinz, Thompson. Cr King Chairman. Abbatoir’s: Crs Armstrong, McGavin, Heinz. , Reserves: Crs Duff, King, Elcock, McGavin, Thompson. Librarv: Crs Stuart. Armstrong, Thompson, Duff, Teichelmann. The meetings of the Council were fixed for the second Friday in each month. . Cr McGavin complained of conduu of selection with regard to appointment of Deputy Returning Officers, and asked who granted permission for the Town Clerk to take on an extra clerk in the 'office, also why tenders were not called for the purchase or gumboots. He moved that the Town Clerk, who is a superannuated. Government officer, bo asked to resign. There was no seconder, and tne Mayor ruled the motion out of order, no notice of motion having been given.
