BLACKBALL NOTES

[OUE OWN COBRESPONDENT.] The monthly meeting of the Blackball Branch of the Women’s Institute was held in the Druids’ Mall. Mrs Park presiding over a gathering of twenty members. The competition for the best article made from a flour or sugar bag was held.over for decision till next meeting night. The roll call subject was “My Oldest Photograph.” After the usual folk-dances and games were indulged in, supper was served by the hostesses, Mesdames W. Neilson and R. Neilson, and Miss McVicar. The singing of the institute song closed a pleasant evening.

The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Blackball Lodge M.U.1.0.F. was held in the Lodge room last evening, Bro. L. Ellsmore presiding over a large attendance of members. Accounts amounting to £6 16s Id were passed for payment. Correspondence from the District Secretary was received and dealt with. It was decided to bring the merit board up-to-date. It was resolved to write the District Secretary regarding “Diplomas.” Mr. and Mrs. Sneddon, Stafford Street, are on a holiday tour of the North Island.

Mrs. J. Gilmer, accompanied by her daughter Gwyn, left by to-day’s express, for Christchurch. Mrs. James Park and Miss P. Symons, Main Road, left, to-day, for Napier on holiday. Mrs E. Humphreys of Eltham, and Mr and Mrs J. Hoban (Christchurch), are visiting Mrs Humphrey’s daughter, Mrs H. Davies, Blackball.
