WOMAN’S DEPRESSION

CHRISTCHURCH, March 10

Arising out of the fire in Fendalton, when Mrs. M. J. Gresson was farally burnt, at the inquest held this afternoon, Coroner H. P. Lawry returned the following verdict: —“Death was due to burns originating from petrol. While she had previously shown suicidal tendencies, there is no evidence available as to how the fire occurred, beyond the fact that she was still showing signs of depression.” Dr. C. Hamilton Gould, brother of Mrs. Gresson, gave evidence that Mrs. Gresson’s health had not been good. She had been receiving treatment. He saw her on Tuesday evening, when she seemed well. Constable McLeod gave evidence that the fire started in the _ wash house, where there was a distinct smell of petrol.
