WELLINGTON WOOL SALE

WELLINGTON, March 9.

At the Wellington wolo sale, to-night, superior crossbreds generally sold at prices fully firm on February rates. Medium and coarse crossbreds declined a farthing. Inferior sorts were a full halfpenny lower. The total offering was about 19,000 bales. It was a comparatively small one, being 11,000 bales below the limit set by the New Zealand Wool Committee, and 6000 less than offered at the corresponding sale last season. The quality of the wool was not out-standing. It largely comprised medium topmaking crossbreds. There was a full bench of buyers, representative of every section of the trade, including a strong Japanese contingent. Bidding at times was inclined to drag. About 90 per cent, of the offering was sold. The range of prices ■was: Merino, average 8d to SJd, inferior 63d to 7&d; fine halfbred, average 8d to xo3d, inferior 6d to 73d; medium halfbred, average 7Jd to lOd, inferior 4gd to 7d. Extra fine crossbred, super 7Jd to Sid, average 5d to 7Jd, inferior 3Jd to 43d; fine crossbred, super 6d to 73d, average 38d to 5.3 d, inferior 2d to 3ftd; medium crossbred, super s|d to 61d, average 3id to sd, inferior lid to 3d; coarse crossbred, super 4Ad to 6d, average 33d to 4.1 d, inferior lid to 3d; low crossbred, super ,4d to 43d, average 23d to 33d, inferior to 2|d. Hoggets: Extra fine 4id to 9d, fine 4d to Sid, medium 33d to 61d, coarse 3d to 4Jd, low up to 4id. Lambs down sid to 9d, fine sid to 9id, medium up to 6d, seedy and inferior IJd to sd. The secretary of the Mount David Sluicing Company reports that the altered' methods adopted during the last few weeks not having resulted in the anticipated increase in returns, there has been a resumption of the previous methods used. For the last few days before this resumption the return was 4oz 9dwt.
