The Liverpool and James, mines will both be idle, on Monday. In the House of Representatives Mr. R. McKeen asked the Postmaster General whether he will take steps to have installed an up-to-date radio broadcasting plant with a view of broadcasting speeches delivered by members in the House. Mr. Hamilton replied:—“The Government does not propose to 'take any action in the direction suggested by the honourable member.” While a bank clerk was engaged in carrying a bundle of 130 banknotes across the main street in Te Amamutu, the encircling rubber band snapped. The notes were quickly scattered ,by the light breeze, and the consternation and activity of the disconcerted clerk were witnessed by an interested group of bystanders. Police aid was invoked, and the notes were safely collected. Every person visiting the Bargain Store will receive free, sufficient ‘Dad’ washing tablets to do one week’s washing. —Advt. The Linton, Mossbank, and Wairaki coal mines are still idle, and in some quarters it is stated that the miners will not he prepared to return to work until the beginning of the New Year' (says the Otago Daily Times). The miners at. these three places have already been out of employment for some two months. The men at the Birchwood and Black Lion mines are, however, working, and all the Otago mines are operating.

Speaking at Stratford, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. H. E. Holland, referred to the high standard of conduct in the New Zealand Parliament, and claimed it was due to the fact that members never hit below the belt, and they had the strictest referee in New Zealand.
