AUCKLAND TRAGEDY
VERDICT AT INQUEST. [PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, October 17. The inquest concerning the death of George Macfarlane, aged 70, of Mount Albert, and of his housekeeper, Emily Constance Chappell, aged 45, was concluded before Mr. Hunt. S.M. Miss Chappell died in the Auckland Hospital on October 6, following on an attack made upon her with a tomahawk by Macfarlane, who, after the attack oil tho woman, was found with his throat cut. His death occurred on October 9. “It is a very sad case,” remarked the Coroner. “I must find that this unfortunate woman died at the hospital, the cause of her death being wounds inflicted by George Macfarlane when in a state of insanity. In connection with Macfarlane, I find that he committed suicide by cutting his throat while insane.”
