SINGAPORE, August 13.
Trebitsch Lincoln, a former member of the House of Commons, and also a German spy, is now a Buddhist monk. He is going to Europe, where he intends to found a Buddhist monastery. It is uncertain in what country he will do so.

Premier Mussolini’s diplomatic office changes follows the policy of keeping assistants up to the mark, discouraging a feeling of security, and training as many as possible to meet emergencies.
WAR LOAN CONVERSION
RUGBY, August 12.
An announcement by Ihe Treasury as to the progress of the war loan conversion operation, up to the end of the bonus month, is expected next week. Much progress has been made with the great volume of mail received in the last few days of July and was for some days afterwards, delayed in the post, consisting mainly of letters from abroad, these being unexpectedly large in number. There are indications that, before July 31, 1700 million pounds -worth of five per cent war stock had been converted to 3£ per cent, stock, and that the final approximate amount will show considerably a. higher figure. The total amount of the war loan outstanding was 2,087 millions. City circles do not doubt that the Treasury will be able to announce a very great success, and anticipate that, apart from benefits, it will confer on the financial situation, the operation will encourage countries with conversion schemes in prospect.
COFFEE STOCKS.
VANCOUVER, August 13
North America is threatened with a coffee famine, though the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, is full of coffee, and the United States Grain Stabilisation Corporation owns more than one million bags there which was acquired by wheat exchange. The shortage is due to the Brazilian Government closing all Brazil ports to Sao Paulo since July 11, following on the Sao Paulo revolution.
“EGYPT’S” TREASURE SALVAGE.
LONDON, August 14
The Artiglio landed' at Plymouth, gold and silver from the Egypt, worth £200,000. She'returns to the scene of the salvage to-morrow, and it is hoped to recover the remaining twothirds of the bullion this year.
LABOUR SPLIT.
LONDON, August 14.
The National Council of the Independent Labour Party endorsed the request of the Scottish executive that fifteen members refusing to support the disaffiliation with the Labour Party, should be expelled. Messrs J. Kirkwood, Neil McLean, and Tom Johnston are among those expelled.
