UNDERTAKER AND SPIRITUALIST.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
AUCKLAND, August 13
The petition of James Robert McKenzie, of Auckland', undertaker’s assistant, for a divorce from Ivy Annie McKenzie, was contested before Justice Herdman and a jury.
Evidence regarding spiritualists and spiritualistic advice and treatment, played a prominent part in the case. The petition, was based on misconduct. The co-respondent was James Morey, known a's Philip Morey, but although he had filed an answer, he did not appear.
Counsel for the petitioned alleged' that Morey (aged 64) was a “spiritualist humbug” who seemed to have gained control of this unfortunate woman, Mrs McKenzie (aged’ 40). He suggested that Morey had combined spiritualism with making love to another man’s wife. The verdict was that misconduct had been committed, and a decree nisi was granted. The co-respondent was ordered to pay costs on the higher scale, togethex* with , the sum of £3O paid by the petitioner to respondent.
