LOVERS SENTENCED
LOYALTY TO EACH OTHER.
LONDON, June 29. When Roger Vaughan Andrews, 3G,
seaman, Chichester-place, Paddington,
and a girl of 23, who gave the name of Josephine Andrews, were at Marylebone on Saturday charged with theft, each said the otlxcr was innocent. They were accused of stealing a motor coat and two cheque books from an unattended motor-car, and
goods to the value of £l6 18/10 from
Selfridge’s, in Oxford-street. The man asserted, “She knows nothing about it.” The girl protested .hat she had taken all the things, and raid, “I don’t care for myself, but he is a good sort.” She had also written to the magistrate saying that the man was innocent. Detcctive-Sergt. Fabian said that the man had two previous convictions I'm- theft, whilst the girl,had several convictions. She had been to a Borstal institution for three years, and had I been charged with burglary. There ■appeared to bo some good in her. “She and the man,” the officer added, “seem very much in love with each other, and they tell me that when they’’ arc released from prison they intend to get married.” The man was sentenced to six months’ hard labour and the girl to nine months’ hard labour,
