HOCKEY

N.Z. TEAM WINS AGAIN.

[by. CABLE —PRESS ASSN. COPYRIGHT.]

SYDNEY, August 11.

The New-Zealand hockey team played a strong Westralian team in a carnival competition in ideal w’eather. The Westralians were expected to provide considerable opposition, they possessing a great forward line. The New Zealand backs, however, were too sound to enable them to break through. Spiers played brilliantly and repulsed many dangerous attacks. ' Munro, at centre-half, fed the New Zealand forwards splendidly. Great short cornerhitting was done by Anthony, two of whose shots found the net. Reid, playing with stitches over his eye, was clever. Joblin, playing left-half, opened New Zealand’s Score with a flick shot. Bay netted shortly after from a scramble in front of the goal. Thompson, a West Australian, tricked Moore nicely to score the only goal for his side. The game was fast and fainv even, and New Zealand was held to a low score. Their aggregate for the tour is now 98 goals to 11 against They tried hard, to get two more goals to complete the century, but theWestralian opposition was too sound. The final score was New Zealand 4, West Australia 1. . ■ .

Queensland won the Noall Shield at the carnival, going through undefeated. To-day they beat Victoria by 5 goals to 2.
