Dr West-Watson, Bishop of Christchurch, was a passengei* by last evening’s express to Hokitika.

Rev. Brother Benignus, of Auckland, has been appointed provincial of the Marist Brothers in New Zealand, in succession to the Rev. Brother Justin, whose term expired this year.

Mr Ronald Chamberlain, Examiner for the South Island for the Trinity College of Music (London), arrived from Christchurch yesterday, and proceeded to Hokitika. He will commence examinations at Greymouth tomorrpw.

The death occurred this morning, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs H. Ashurst, Shakespeare Street, of Mr David Paterson, aged 73 years. The deceased, who had been in illhealth for a number of years, was a native of Glasgow, Scotland, and came to reside at Greymouth, about five years ago. His wife predeceased him 31 years ago in Bolton, England. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs H. Ashurst, and Miss Rebecca Paterson (Greymouth), and Mrs W. Dore (Bolton, England), and four sons, James (Greymouth), and Sidney, David, and Wilfred (Lancashire, England). The funeral will leave the residence of his daughter, Mrs Ashurst, Shakespeare Street, at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday, for Karoro Cemetery. .
