WESTERN AUSTRALIAN GOLD
YEAR’S YIELD WORTH £5,000,000. ~PERTH, July 18. The Minister for Mines (Mr. J. Scaddan) said yesterday that he would not be surprised if the total production of gold this year in Western Australia reached a value of £5,000,000, compared with £2,298,574 last year. The value of production for the past six months was £2,018,286, including £791,673 premium. The number of men employed in the industry had increased from 4108 at the end of 1929, to 4452 at the end of 1930, and 6623 at the end of 1931. At the end of the March quarter there was an increase of 7331, which was an improvement of 78 per ebnt. in ■ two years and a quarter. Ore treated at tho State batteries had increased in 1931 by 50,974 tons to 100,743 tons. For the first six months of this year 70,000 tons had been treated.
