[OUU OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Mr and Mrs R. A; Stewart were visitors to Greymouth during the weekend. „ , x . . Mr N. French is confined to his room 'suffering from pleurisy and pneumonia. Mrs N. French is visiting Waiuta, as the guest of Mrs W. G. Harris. Mr Allan Scott (Palmerston North) s spending a holiday in Wauta as the guest of his aunt, Mrs R. A. Stewart. Messrs R. Willianjs and Haines were visitors to Waiuta last week-end. The Waiuta Ladies’ Hockey Club played Reefton Kakas at. Reefton on Saturday last, when superior combination prevailed, and the Kakas won by 9 goals to 1. The Warriors playing at Blackwater against the Reefton Kiwis won by 4 goals to nil. Waiuta Rugby seniors played at Ikamatua on Sunday, where they were beaten by 20 points to nil. - The League seniors, fielding eight junior players, were hopelessly outclassed by Marist at Greymouth, 42 to 13 being the score. The juniors defaulted to Ngahere. The Third Grade team playing at Blackwater were beaten by Mawheraiti by 11 points to 2 after a hard, even game. Mr B. Topp was referee. • '•

The first annual ball organised by the Third Grade League players, was held in the Miners’ Hall on Saturday evening, and the result was a grand success. The hall was tastefully' decorated with coloured streamers hung from i a square formed in the ceiling and carried outwards to the walls so as to have the effect of draping them. In all it made a pretty picture. The music was supplied by the new orchestra, the blue and white Orpheans, and it was enjoyed by all present.. A dainty hand-round supper was served by a ladies’ committee. During the evening Mr J. Bartlett, on behalf of the organising committee and the third grade players thanked those present for their attendance, and particularly the orchestra who had given the music gratis, and,the ladies’ committee who haa 1 given valuable assistance. Novelty dances were won by Miss A. Hempseed and Mr A. Hogg and Miss Sadler and Mr B. Hempseed. Mr J. Bartlett was M.C. Extras were supplied by Miss Booth and the stringed trio.
