MARRIAGE BAN
CHIEF CONSTABLE’S VIEW. A marriage ban on constables was recommended by the Chief Constable of Glamorgan at a meeting of the Glamorgan Standing Joint Commit, tee. The Chief Constable, Capt. Lionel Lindsay, suggested that a man joining the Force should not be given permission to marry until he had been in the Force five years. During this period he would become a more practical policeman by living in the police station without family ties. Mr J. C. Meggitt said that the recommendation was a harsh one. No occupation outside the priesthood in the Roman Catholic Church carried such a prohibition. The recommendation was referred back for further consideration.
