At the mechanical hare racing inquiry to-day, John Cruickshank, . described as a “free lance” advertisng cig: ent, gave an account of ilGgotliV tions for an associated advertising campaign on behalf of the State Labour Party. He related a' conversation he had with Swindell in June, when Swindell said that he would nay for advertising on behalf of the Labour Party, “the same as last tirnq.” Commissioner: Did you make anv inquires about the financial position of Swindell?—P did not. I knew that he was worth thousands some years ago. Mr Monahan K.C. (who is assisting the Commissioner): And you never knew he was “on the rocks ’ about this time? —No. , Who was the party’s director of ad vertising?—Mr McCauley, the Premier’s private secretary. James Taylor, former secretary •••f the Australian Coursing Club, said that the Directorate decided to appoint Swindell as organiser for five companies in order to get ’the greyhound racing 'restored while the Labour Tarty was in office. Swindell’s terms were twelve thousand shares. His nominee was to be a man name ! Hutton. The minutes of -that meeting were torn out of the book because the directors complained that they were too brief.
