REEFTON NOTES

[OUR OWN PORRESPONDENT.] REEFTON, July 27. The spell of frosty weather continues and the town-water service is giving trouble. One hostelry has been without hot water and without cooking accommodation since- Saturday last, and in a large, number of private houses stoves have been badly damaged by bursting hot water tanks. The Inangahua river is frozen over in several places and also Burke’s Creek, while streams at Big River and Merrijijs carry ice heavy enough to walk on. The Inangahua Hockey representatives for the Newman Cup against Buller are as follow: W. Robinson, J. Evans, J. Cameron, M. Horrocks, B Blom, L. Thorne, A. Patterson, A. Blackadder, M. McMahon, P. Kearns, Emergencies: D. Perry, Collins, Q. Smith. i A meeting of returned soldiers was held in the Council Chambers on Monday evening. There was a good attendance and an address was given by Mr. R. S. Harrison. A party from Westport attended the gathering and it was decided to resuscitate the local association.
