POSE AS BROTHER

HOW WOMAN WAS DECEIVED LONDON, May 19. A man who passed as the brother of a woman and was accepted as such by her was at Bristol yesterday sentenced to one month’s imprisonment for obtaining food and money by false pretences. It was stated that accused, William Henry Jones, 22, of Dean-street, Bristal, was well known to William Longman, the man whose identity he assumed, and who had only been seen by his sister twice in two years. Evan Jones, of Kingsdown, a furnace man, said that he saw accused in a cinema and noticing a resemblance between him and his brother-in-law, asked him if he was William Longman, his brother-in-lpw. On saying “yes,” accused was taken home, where witness’s wife accepted Jones as her brother. On the next day when Jones visited the house, witness found him nursing the baby. During a walk, Mrs. Jones’s father was met, but he failed to recognise his “son.” Suspicions were aroused, and the police were informed. Mrs. Jones said she became suspicious on asking Jones questions, but did not like to accuse him until she was sure. She lent him 2/6.
