Emphatic disapproval of a number of statements made at the annual conference of the Auckland branch of the Farmers’ Union was expressed at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Friesian Association held at Hamilton. The views of the meeting were expressed in the following resolution: “That this meeting emphatically disassociates itself from the views expressed at the annual conference of the Auckland Farmers’ Union (a comparatively small body, and not thoroughly representative of farmers), that farmers were the natural ally of Labour, and that this meeting also disapproves of other Communistic statements made at the conference.”

When 18 ferry steamers were offered for sale by public autetion in Sydney recently they met with a very poor response. The Auction room, was packed, but the auctioneer had hardly mounted the rostrum before it was obvious that most of those present were actuated by nothing keener than curiosity. No offer was made for .the Kuttabul, most modern of the fleet, which came under the■ hammer.. Sfie was followed by the Lady Carrington, Koompartoo, Lady Napier, and Kurraba, all of which were also passed in without a bid. When the Woollahra was offered a bid of £2O was called, but the vessel was passed in, the auctioneer refusing to consider the sum named as a bid. The Lady Rawson, for which £3O was bid, and King Edward, which one bidder offered to purchase for £4O, met similar fates. Tliq vehicle ferries Kara Kara, Kalang, Koondooloo, Killara, Kedumba-. Barangaroo, and Benelon, and the steam launch Argus were all passed in without an offer. The whole proceedings occupied 27 minutes. Later the sale of the day was effected. The vehicle ferry Kamilaroi had been passed in after Mr J. Stride, of Glebe, had bid £B5. Mr Stride subsequently secured the vessel by private treaty for £9O. He said that he intended to have the vessel stripped and broken up. :

“I see you have had a very bad cold, but you are quite well again, my dear Watson,” said Sherlock Holmes, after he had shaken hands and taken a seat before the fire. Dr Watson looked somewhat bewildered by this remark. “Yes, I have had a bad. cold and I am quite better. But how,” he asked, “did you deduct that?” “Oh, it’s .quite simple,” replied Sherlock Holmes. “So simple in fact, that it spoils the effect to tell you. I just happened to see a half empty bottle of Parkinson’s Lime Syrup on the mantlepiece so I knew that my friend has had a bad cold but he is quite better.” Nothing like Parkinson’s Lime Syrup for coughs and colds or sore throats. It gives instant soothing relief to hacking coughing attacks, after the first spoonful, ft is pleasanttasting, so. children actually look forward to taking Parkinson’s Lime Syrup for colds.
