THE POPE TO BROADCAST
UNABLE TO ’ ATTEND -CONGRESS. LONDON, June 2. Although the Pope will not be able to attend the Ep.charist.ic Congress in Dublin an official told “The Sun’ representative -that the Congress would be the occasion of the first personal broadcast by the Pope, who has ar-i-anged to convey a siiecial message, probably in English, when the Papal Legate has inaugurated the -proceedings at the Pro-Cathedral on June 22.
The Pope will listen to the famous motet, “Thou Art Peter,” hitherto sung only in his actual presence, the performers being the Pro-Cathedral choir. The Pope will also address the million 'persons expected to attend the Congress. After the concluding ceremonies on June 26, his message of blessing will be broadcast along the 15 miles of the processional route. Both Papal addresses will be broadcast all over the world by the new Free State high-power station at Athlone, which will enable the Pope to hear the Pontifical High Mass at Phoenix Park, with which the final ceremonies will be inaugurated on June 26.
