DOCTOR AND CRITIC

COMEDY OF MEDICAL ADVICE.

PARIS, February 28.

Much amusement has been aroused in medical and literary circles in Paris by a story about a doctor and a well-known dramatic critic who were present last week at the first night of a French adaptation of “King Lear,” produced at the Odeon. Meeting the critic on the steps of the theatre after the performance, the doctor asked what his conclusions were. After having explained at length what he thought about the piece, the critic asked the medical man to give him some advice about a very bad cough. The doctor complied and on the next day sent in his bill:

“For a medical consultation outside the Odeon, 50f (about Ils).” The critic, in reply, sent the fol lowing communication:

“To explaining ‘King Lear’ outside the Odeon, 50f; for having caught cold while waiting patiently for the doctor to understand this explanation, 50f; to deduct for medical consultation, 50f; sum due, 50f.” The doctor has not yet replied.
