. MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB. There were thirty members present at the annual meeting of the Greymouth Miniature Rifle Club, held last evening, at which Mr S. Sharman pre. sided. The balance sheet, showing a satisfactory credit balance on the year’s work, was read and adopted. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr J. O’Brien, M.P.; President, Mr S. Sharman; Deputy Presi-, dent, Mr I. Bennington; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr M. Garth; Assistant Secretary, Mr J. Malloy; Committee, Messrs W. Hamilton, W. Prendergast, I Hamilton, T. Garth, and J. Knight; Auditor, Mr R. Simmers. It was decided that the Club affiliate with the N.Z.M.R.A. Subscription was fixed the same as last year. The following were appointed a social committee: Messrs W. Teague, M Garth, F. Malloy, I. Hamilton, I. Bennington, L. Redway and W. Prender gast. The opening night was left to the committee, pending alterations to the range at the Drill Shed. HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL [OUB OWN COBBEBPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, April 9. The monthly meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council was held last evening; present: the Mayor (Mr. Perry), Crs. T. W. Duff, E. W. Heenan, A. R. Elcock, Dr. E. Teiclielmann, A. C. Armstrong, Jas. King, G. Heinz, D. J. Evans. A vote of condolence to the family of the late Mr. Sloss was passed.

J. H. Gardiner, Hokitika, wrote enquiring what price the Council would accept for Sections 1391 and 1392, at. the corner of Park and Sale Street. — The Clerk to reply. S. F. Brown, Rolleston Street, wrote regarding the cost of dividing fence between his property and Borough Reserve No. 570. Secretary Rover Hockey Club applied for use of Cass Square ‘as a playing field. —Granted. The N.Z. Refrigerating Company wrote that the following quantities of meat were delivered into Hokitika for the month of February, 1932:—18 sheep, 11 lambs. ( The Secretary Hokitika Fire Board wrote, notifying under Section 21 of the Fire Brigades’ Act, 1926, that the contribution of the Hokitika Borough Council for the year commencing April 1, 1932, will be £292 10/- payable in quarterly payments of £73 2/6 on the Ist day of April, July, and October, 1932, and January, 1933. The Chairman, No. 12 District Highways Council wrote that the Main Highways Board have decided to appoint a full time Inspector for No. 12 District, without requiring the local authorities to make any contribution, but that such Inspector will 6nly operate on the Main Highway. Kanieri Electric Ltd. wrote to the effect that the Town Hall installation needed overhaul. —Referred to Town Clerk.

The Treasurer reported:—Receipts £703 6/-; payments £BOO 3/1; debit £476 7/11. Accounts to the amount of £675 17/10 were passed for payment. The overseer reported the average depth of water in the reservoir for the month was 6 feet.

The abattoir managei’ reported animals slaughtered during the month: — 15 cows; 14 heifers; 57 bullocks; 308 sheep; 212 lambs; 8 pigs; 26 calves; one cow condemned. Fees received, £77 2/- (for same period last year £7l 17/-).

EXCELSIOR RUGBY CLUB. The annual meeting of the Excelsior Club was held at Hokitika on Thursday evening. Mr H- M- Coulson (President) was in the chair.

The annual report congratulated the club on a very successful past season. Although at times it was very awkward for players to travel, the club was in the fortunate position of having a number of privatelyowned cars at its disposal, which, at all times, allowed them to field a strong team. The senior team were runners-up in their grade after being defeated by Cobden in a very even and good display of Rugby. The senior seven-a-side was again won by Excelsiors, making them the holders of the Toohey Cup. The junior team did not do very well, at times finding it very difficult to field a full fifteen, and towards the latter end of the season they failed altogether. Representative honours were gained by six seniors in Coast matches, while M ; Davidson was selected to .play in the’ Seddon Shield district v. New South Wales at Nelson, he worthily upholding past honours. Notwithstanding hard times the club did not tare so badly financially, the season’s operations showing a small debt of £l/4/9, which must be considered very satisfactory.
