Correspondence and Miscellaneous —The Conservator of State Forests, Nelson, forwarded proposals by Local Bodies as undei’ for the expenditure of fifths and tenths of revenue from Stdte Forests. —Inangahua C.C. for period ending 31.12.31, £ll/12/2; Buller C.C. for period ending 31.12.31. £4/17/11; Collingwood C.C. for period ending 31.12.31 £2/0/4. —Approved. A meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council was held last evening; present: The Mayor (Mr. G. A. Perry), Crs. T. W. Duff, E. W. Heenan, A, R. Elcock, Dr. Teichelmann, A. C. Armstrong, Jas. King, D. P. Stuart, G. Heinz, D. J. Evans. M. S. Andrewes, applied for annual leave; —Granted. D. Breeze, secretary, Poultry Club, wrote intimating that Messrs J. J. Breeze, F. Groufsky and W. Hall, have been appointed trustees of the Horticultural Hall. The secretary Hokitika Fire Board, forwarded extract from report of the Inspector of Fire Brigades, drawing attention to the necessity of providing adequate water supply for fire purposes in Davie Street, Rolleston Street, Beach Street, and the north end of Sewell Street. —Resolved to ascertain cost. |

The secretary Hokitika Fire Brigade wrote asking for the use of Cass Square for Fire Brigade Demonstration on Saturday, March 12, and authority to charge an admission fee. — Granted. The secretary, Returned Soldiers’ Association, Hokitika, applied for permission to hold a sacred concert in the Princess Theatre on April 25, Anzac Night, and to charge an admission fee. —Granted.

Messrs Arthur Appleton and Huia Appleton applied for a twenty-one years’ lease of one acre of Part Municipal Reserve No. 446. —Referred to Town Clerk to report at next meeting. Mrs. A. Appleton notified that she wishes to relinquish the tenancy of Municipal Reserves No. 585, 586 and 587 from June 30, 1931. —Surrender accepted. The Chief Inspector of Explosives, Wellington, wrote intimating that an inspection of local Dangerous Goods Depots had been made, and that the conditions of storage were found to be satisfactory. The Chairman, No. 12 District Highways Council, Greymouth, wrote, asking for details of plant owned by Council, and used on Main Highways. —Received. The Auditor-General wrote in respect of Section 40 (h), Municipal Corporations Act, 1930, intimating conditions under which the constitutionary limit can be increased for the purchase of timber from the Kanieri Hokitika Sawmilling Company. The Treasurer reported receipts amounting to £464/17/6, payments £770/17/3; debit £330/15/1. Accounts amounting to £631 were passed for payment.

The Foreman repotred that the water in the reservoir averaged 6ft !)in for the • month; also reported on works carridd out by the staff. The Abattoir Manager reported animals slaughtered during the month: 16 cows, 22 heifers, 39 bullocks, 249 sheep, 161 lambs, 7 pigs, 13 calves; condemned 1 cow. Fees received £64/ 7/-, compared with £6l/17/- for same period last year. Cyi-il Coyle’s tender of 2/- per load for 100 loads of 21 cubic feet was accepted.
