EDUCATION ESTIMATES

ALL-ROUND REDUCTIONS

[BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.] RUGBY, March 9. The Education Estimates for the coining financial year show an aggregate cost of £52,006,461. This is a net decrease-of £6,371,137 on the cost for 1931. The reductions are made under all headings, which cover expenditure on the Board of Education, Museums, Art Galleries, Universities and Colleges. Grants under the new Estimates to local education authorities total £3,875,000, a decrease of £5,931,000. It is assumed that the cost per child in elementary education has been reduced from £l3/7/9 last year, to £l2 11/7. This is the first decrease for several years. In 1913-14, the cost was £4/15/2 per child.
