COAL MINES

DOBSON RESUMES TO-DAY. . There was a full muster of men called on by the Grey Valley Collieries, to attend for work at the Dobson mine, which re-opened this morning, after being idle for 137 days. Operations were naturally slow for a while, it taking some time to get everything in working order, but the coal came along this afternoon, and a satisfactory output was made. The mine will work for the full week. During the week-end, a slip occurred about five chains above ths entrance to the Hoist tunnel, at the middle brake of the State mine. The transmission lines, and some chains of water mains were carried away. Work was resumed at the State mines to-day, but loading operations were delayed for a time until repairs were effected. Two co-operative mines drawing electric power from the State mine, were rendered idle, by the slip.
