HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

HOKITIKA, February 13.

The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry), Crs T. W. Duff, E. W. Heenan, D. P. Stuart, A. R. Elcock, G. Heinz, Jas. King, D. J. Evans, and Dr E. Teichelmann. An apology was received for the absence of Cr Armstrong.

The Treasurer reported receipts £1392/14/8; payments £259/4/8; debit £99/16/4. J. H. Wilson wrote asking that the footpath at his residence, Gibson’s Quay, be gravelled. Mrs R. Robinson, Revell Street, wrote asking for separate water service connection to do away with “hammer” through three connections being on one pipe.—To be attended to.

Miss M. Agnew applied for permission to subdivide sections 1161, 1161 A, Brittan Street, quarter acres, with 66ft frontage, into two sections of 33ft frontage each. —Granted. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote intimating that the purpose of Reserve No. 446 had been changed from a Cricket ground to an Endowment in aid of the Borough Funds. T. N. Warren applied to erect a butcher’s shop.—Granted. The Secretary, Westland Hospital Board, applied to transfer Board’s interest in Municipal Reserve No. 473 to Mr E. W. Breeze, an'd also application from C. J. P. Sellers fo 1 ’ consent regarding the same reserve. —Consent given. The Chairman, District Highways Council, wrote notifying tenders for work on Main Highway were not to be accepted up to the 31st March, 1932, without the Board’s concurrence.

N.Z. Refrigerating Co., -Wrote intimating that the following quantities of meat were delivered into Hokitika for January 1932, viz., 25 sheep, 10 lambs.

The Hokitika District Prospecting Association wrote asking for a donation to assist in prospecting.—Resolved that £2 be voted.

Albert S. King wrote asking for access and drainage to Section 1309, Park Street. —The Council regrets that no money is available. T. N. Warren applied for domestic service connection to Section 790 at the corner of Stafford and Fitzherbert Streets. —Granted.

Accounts aggregating £ll7O 17/3 were passed for payment. The foreman reported on work carried out during January. The Abattoir Manager’s report showed animals slaughtered during January: 14 cows, 29 heifers, 38 bullocks, 237 sheep, 136 lambs, 7 pigs, 12 calves; condemned 1 pig. Fees received £62/2/-. For same period last year £69/10/-. The Reserves Committee reported that the cost of fencing the Botanic Garden reserve would be £l5 without labour. —Referred to the Reserves Committee with power to act. Resolved that tenders be called for 150 silver pine posts and that the reserves be cleaned up thoroughly. It was resolved that tar-sealing be proceeded with and that sawdust be tried on footpaths and Cass Square. Resolved that tenders be invited for 100 yards of grit for tar-sealing, delivered where required.
