Strachan left by to-day’s express, on his return to Palmerston North. Miss Dennehy, who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Dennehy, Street], returned, to-day, to Timaru. Mr. J. Woods, Public Works Engineer who has been on an official visit to the West Coafrt, returned, today, to Wellington. Major H..H. Browne has resigned from the position of Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives. Major Browne had held the office since 1920. —Press Assn. Mr. H. Bowman, of the Post and Telegraph Department, Wellington, will arrive by this afternoon’s express, on a holiday visit to Greymoiith. Guests at Revington’s include: — Mr and Mrs Trenwith (Auckland), Messrs S. Wheatley, R. Hulquist (Westport), T. D. Floyd (Reefton), G. T.-COlbeck (Christchurch), S. H. Kuhl (Wellington). The funeral of the late William Alfred Evenden took place yesterday afternoon at the Kumara Cemetery. The cortege, which was a long one, included friends and sympathisers from all parts of the district. The Rev. Mr. Montford officiated at the church and graveside.
Mrs. J. Hutton, who will he shortly leaving for Gisborne, was given a farewell afternoon yesterday at the residence of Mrs. ,W. Kyle, Shakespeare Street. There was a large at-i tendance. Mrs. Hutton was presented with a beautiful bouquet of carnations and sweet peas, many expressions of regret being m’ade at her departure.
Th© death took place at the Grey River Hospital, of Mr Reginald William McDonald, aged 29 years. The deceased, who had been an inmate of the Hospital for the past week, was a .son of Mr and Mrs Peter McDonald, Hawera, and had resided in Greymouth for the past four and a-half years. He was a prominent member of the Druids’ Lodge, and had conducted orchestras in both Hawera and Greymouth. He is survived by a wife and two young children. A third child died at the Grey River Hospital on Wednesday last at the age of three months. He is also survived by three brothers, Sydney (Welling- • ton), and Douglas and Cecd / (Hawera). The funeral will take place in Hawera, on Wednesday next.
