LEGEND FULFILLED
POND TRAGEDY RIiTvEALED. LONDON, September 10. The legend of a pond in which a girl drowned herself.was told at the inquest at. Chalfont St. Peter, Bucks, yesterday, on Florence Barley (28), of New Bradwell,, Bucks, who recently obtained a situation at Chalfont St. Peter, in order to be near her sweetheart, George Roberts. Roberts had told her of a legend connected with a pond, known as Half Hour Pond, that a girl once drowned herself there aftex- waiting in vain for half an hour fox* hex- lover, z Legend also has it that if any one ran round the pond three times they would see the girl’s hand appeal above the water. When he told hex- she. only laughed and said, “What a silly girl.” Last Sunday she disappeared, and on Thursday morning two workmen saw a girl’s hand above the water in the middle of the pond. They cleared the weeds and recovered the body. A verdict of suicide while of unsound mind was returned.
