COMMITTEE MEETING. Members of the Grey Main School Committee met last evening, Mr R. A. Barrowman presiding, Messrs A. V. Ollivier, G. Herring, W. Scott, J. Tennent, R. J- Williams, H. Herring, and the secretary, Mr J. C- H. McDonald, being also present. An apology for absence was received from Mr A. J. Fairmaid; In his motnhly report, the Headmaster, Mr J- Graham, advised: Roll [number at end of month: Main, boys 296, girls 302; total 598. Blaketown, boys 60, girls 47; total 107. Average attendance: —Main: Boys 256.4, girls 241.7; total 498.1- Blaketown: Boys 55.7, girls 40.1; total 95.8. General: — The drains excavated by the workmen
on the unemployed scheme have proved their value during the recent rains, not a pool of water showing on the playing areas. Lawn: Timber is urgently required for edging the lawn before the newly-trimmed edges have been broken. Timber, etc-, for fencing off the school garden is also required. Cricket: With such excellent weather conditions, interest in this branch of sport is very keen, and house matches have been arranged among the various I classes. The net is proving very helpful during batting practices. Messrs Barrowman, H. Herring and Scott were appointed a committee to deal with the question of timber for edging the lawns, the report being otherwise adopted. The dental nurse, Miss K. Thompson, reported a total of 445 operations and a total attendance of 165 pupils for the month. Five applications for the position of assistant master tvere received and Mr F. J. Tempero, of St. Albans School, Christchurch, was appointed. He will commence duty at Greymouth as from January 1, 1932. Repairs to the piano were authorised, at a cost of £B/10/-. Accounts amounting to £4B/18/10 were passed for payment. 'lt was resolved that the Canterbury Education Board be asked to have the rooms not yet renovated, attended to during the school holidays, and also have the back fence and bicycle shed painted. Messrs Scott and H. Herring were appointed a visiting committee for I the month- ' Correspondence was received from Hon. R. R. Masters (Minister of Education), Mr J. O’Brien, M.P., and the Canterbury Education Board, regarding the repairing of earthquake damage at the school. The Committee were advised that a report was being prepared by the Education Department to be submitted to the Minister who, on receipt of it, would give immediate attention to the matter.
