ENTERTAINMENTS

OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT. The proverb says it takes nine tailors to make a man. But William Haines, after experience, says that it takes nine men to make a tailor. He came to this conclusion after intensive study of the technique of clothes repairing, pants pressings and other details of the tailor’s calling to play the tailor’s assistant in “A Tailor Made Man,” to be screened to-night, Saturday’s matinee and evening. “Heroes of the Flames” will be screened at Saturday’s matinee. “Don’t Bet On Women” will be screened at Blackball to-night. “Not Exactly Gentlemen,” will be screened at Runanga on Saturday night. POPULAR DANCING RENDEZVOUS Another large attendance is expected t at the Mawhera-Blaketown dance at Schaef’s Hall, Saturday night. As usual a splendid programme of old time numbers will be presented, and Billy Williams’s orchestra will dispense popular music. THE MERRYMAKERS. Humour was greatly in evidence at Wesley Hall last evening, when an enjoyable function was attended by ■those concerned in the recent Merrymakers’ Carnival. The hall was effectively decorated by Mr H. Spargo. “Lord Palmerston,” (Mr E. Airey), who received the guests, was a commanding figure in evening suit, white spats, and blue beard. He apologised for the absence of “his dear t lady,” who unfortunately could not get her curls in order for the occasion. He thanked the ladies for their fine work during the Carnival. Progressive table games were played, the winner being Miss McDonald. A number of concert items were contributed during the evening. One of the last laughs was enjoyed by the ladies, when it was discovered that the mere men had burnt the coffee!
