Mrs. J. McLaren (Heathcote Valley) is visiting Waiuta, as the guest of her brother, Mr. W. Tomlinson. I Mr. and Mrs. H. Coulson, who have been, spending their honeymoon in Nelson have returned. Mrs. Coulson was formerly Miss Mary Thorne. i Mrs. Robins (Reefton) who has been visiting Waiuta as the guest of Mr. D. Thompson, has returned home. | Mr. Johnson (Agricultural Inspector) was a visitor to the local school on Friday last. 1 At a meeting of the Bachelors Committee it was decided unanimously to postpone the Waiuta Bachelors’ Ball, so as not to interrupt the proceedings of the different committees working for the Queen Carnival. The present position of the candidates is stated to be in the following positions: League 7,433 votes, Ist; Cricket. 7000 votes, 2nd; Rugby, 6000 votes, 3rd; Tennis, 3,724 votes, 4th. The Queen Carnival is now in its final week, and the differient committees are trying a number of different ways of raising funds. Generally, people will be glad when the ' carnival is over, they will then be quite safe in going for a stroll, at any time of the day. The Carnival closes ou Saturday with a big sports meeting, procession and many other attractions. Numerous visitors are expected in Waiuta for the week-end. The Tennis Queen Committee held a Children’s Plain and Fancy Dress Ball on Thursday evening last in aid of their candidate. The ball was a great success, being well attended by both children and adults. A number of visitors were present from Reefton and surrounding districts. Mrs. R. A. Stewart and Miss Sharpe acted as judges for the different fancy costumes and their task was no easy one, they awarding the prizes as follows: —Most Humorous Girl, Heather Wright (Reef- | ton), “Micky Mouse”; Most Hunior'ous Boy, Verne Jones, “Golfer”; Best Fancy Dressed Girl, Joy Lines, “Fluffy Doll”; Best Fancy Dressed Boy, Rusnell Orr, “Judge"; Most Original Girl, Elva Hindmarsh (Reefton) “Three Star Beer Barrell”; Most Original Bov, Will Murley, “Black and White Whisky.” Special prizes to: Pat Darby “Chrysanthemums,” Coral Stephens, “Butterfly,” Pat Lines “Plum Pudding}” Joyce Stanbdjry, “Coquette”; special pairs: Peggy Houghon and Nita Reid, “Urchins”; Elva and Ralph Hindmarsh “Brewery”; a special prize was also awarded Charlie Cockerill who represented “Dr Gandhi.” Mrs. Ord supplied the music with extras by Mr. S. White and Mr. Bartlett. Mr. Bartlett was M.C. The concert was greatly enjoyed by all. At the end of the lengthy programme, Mr. J. A. McEwin thanked the performers who included Mesdames Hanham, C. Baxter, Misses Burgoyne, Barrett, Wingham, Brown, McKay, Hanham (two), Messrs Wilde, P. Coll, G. Wallace, S. McKay, C. Baxter, H. Dodson, Hanham, F. Roberts, Nelson, W. Connor, and the electricians, Messrs Henry and Tillyshort; also the accompanist, Mrs. H. A. Ord for their fine performance and for coming such a distance to give such an enjoyable concert. A cricket match was played on the 'Domain on Sunday between Reefton and Waiuta, the latter winning by j 24 runs after an even game. At the (start of the game the captain of the ißeefton team, Mr. T.
