Mrs C. Rugg, Senr., Mrs B. Stevenson, and Mr S. Morris returned to-day to Hornby.

Mrs F. Moore, who has been visiting Greymouth, returned to-day to Christchurch.

Mrs D. B. Murray left for Christchurch this morning, on a holiday visit.

Mr A. Birse who has been visiting Greymouth, left to-day on return to Dunedin.

The condition of Mrs C. Rugg is reported by the Grey River Hospital authorities to be satisfactory.

A Dunedin message stated that Lady Bledisloe had contracted a feverish cold, and has cancelled all appointments over the week-end.

Mrs Packer, who has been on a visit to hei- mother, Mrs Kennedy, Chapel Street, returned to Christchurch to-day.

Mr C. Tanner, who was injured on the railway near Rewanui yesterday morning, underwent aq operation at the Grey River Hospital last night. His condition to-day was reported to be still serious.

Mr K. J. Holyoake has been adopted as the official Government candidate, agreed upon by both the Reform and United Parties, for the Motueka electorate, at the forthcoming elections.

The death took place last evening at Rangiora, after an illness lasting a week, of Mr S. Webber. The deceased is survived by his widow, one son, Mr R. J. M. Webber, of Greymouth, and two daughters, Mrs F. To], mie, Rangiora, and Mrs A. Dunn, Christchurch.

Mr H. P. Stark, formerly wellknown in.jNew Zealand, who has retired from the service of the Bank of New South Wales, has, arrived at Auckland from Sydney. When Mr Stark retired recently from the bank’s service he was manager of the Hunter’s Hill (Sydney) branch. He joined the bank at Gisborne in 1882 and was later at Thames, Greymouth, and Hokitika. In 1912, he was transferred to Sydney as manager of the bullion department of the bank. He became manager at Hunter’s Hill in 1926. Mr Stark, who is accompanied by Mrs Stark, will spend about four months in New Zealand. They will leave Auckland in February , for an extended dour of the world.
