BIBLE CLASS RALLY

PRESBYTERIAN CAMP. The Presbyterian Young Men’s Bible Class held a very successful Bible Class rally during the Labour Day week-end.’ Over 40 representatives arrived by car from Westport on Saturday evening, and with representatives from Hokitika (50), Runanga (35), Kumara (10), Rotomanu (S), Christchurch (2), Wellington (1); Ashburton (1) and Greymouth (150), an enjoyable time was spent. The young men who arrived from Westport on the Saturday evening were camped together with Greymouth boys in their class-room here, whilst the girls were billeted at homes. All meals were provided for the visitors. A social was held in the Sunday School Hall on the Saturday evening and which proved a success, supper being provided by the Young Men’s Class. All campers were in bed by 11 p.m. and lights out at 11.30 p.m. A sack partly filled with straw, represented a mattress, and a suitcase a pillow- Most of .the campers slept a sleepless night, due to the absence of spring mattresses. Mr Vic. French (Superintendent of the Presbyterian Social Service Association, Christchurch) was in charge of the camp. Breakfast on Sunday morning consisted of boiled savaloys and potatoes set out by the camp cooks. After breakfast, the boys asesmbled at the camp, and a short but inspiring address, was given by the Rev. H. R. Fell. In the afternoon a combined Bible Class meeting was'held and over 200 were present. An address was given by Mr Vic. French. Miss J. Tennent rendered a solo, “What will you do with Jesus?” Those who attended the afternoon meting were invited to tea by the Senior Girls. Tables were spread for over 150. In the evening the campers attended church, and a further address was here given by Mr Vic. French. After church supper was provided for the campers, and lights were out at the camp at 11 p.m- Campers by this time were tired and slept well during the night. 5 a.m. (Labour Day) saw the campers in a warlike mood. Pillows, straw mattresses, kapoc, and everything movable was flying in all directions. The Camp Father, Mr French, sought cover under his mattress, whilst one of the small fry nested himself in a large suitcase until peace was declared. After the peace pact was signed the campers set to work cleaning up the debris and putting things into order, whilst the cooks retired to the kitchen to provide a breakfast of boiled eggs, etc. The next item was the Labour Day rally at Kumara. Beach, no less than five buses and seven cars conveying over 300 to the rally. The weather was fine, and an interesting sports programme was arranged. St. John’s, Greymouth, were successful in holding the senior banner, whilst Hokitika Senior Girls were successful in retaining the Senior Girls’ banner. Previous to the sports, Rev. Mr Naylor, of Hokitika, welcomed all present, and an address was also given by Mr French. The buses returned from the beach about 7 p.m-, and supper was provided prior to the Westport visitors leaving for home about 9 p.m. The ports resulted: —
